Zoe Queally MCSP(UK) Bsc(hons)Physiotherapy
Zoe is a UK trained Chartered Physiotherapist with 14 years of clinical experience. She qualified at the University of East London and then was very lucky to work her first few informative years at one of London’s top teaching hospitals, University College Hospital. Over the years she has worked in many clinics and hospitals throughout London alongside some of the UK´s top Spinal, Orthopaedic and Neurosurgeons as well as recognised and well thought of Sports Physicians.
She now specialises in combining manual therapy techniques with Pilates working with people who have spinal pain and sporting injuries. She has treated many athletes and sportsmen both amateur and professional, including dancers, martial artists, footballers, marathon runners, tri-athletes and rugby players from Blackheath rugby club and the England ladies rugby. However, it shouldn’t be forgotten that the majority day to day caseload is actually the people who work hard in front of their computers for many hours and pick up repetitive strain injuries and postural neck and back problems!
Zoe moved to Barcelona 6 years ago, having worked hard at becoming fluent in Spanish, she now successfully treats all types of injuries and has a current 50:50 caseload of English and Spanish speakers.
Over the past 2 years, Zoe has reached lecturing status and teaches fellow Physiotherapists and Osteopaths about the clinical use of Pilates throughout Spain, the UK and in the not too distant future Portugal as well.

Pilates
Pilates is a system of exercises which are specifically designed to target the core stability muscles. These muscles are particularly important for the strength and stability of the back. In the majority of cases, following an acute episode of back pain the function of these muscles is inhibited. Should these muscles not be re-trained, extensive research has shown the incidence of back pain recurring is as great as 80%.
Zoe uses Pilates to assess and treat spinal pains and sports injuries, so fear not, your chances of a recurrence of back pain are HUGELY reduced.

A personal note from Zoe
So now you have read a bit about Physiotherapy and Pilates let me tell you about my personal philosophy. For me the most important factor in achieving success with a patient, it doesn’t matter if they are a professional athlete, a very chronic patient with psychological issues, or Joe/Joanna(!) Bloggs from the street whom has a sprained ankle or just spends too many hours in front of the computer, the key to success is a very thorough assessment process. It is essential to me to really get a feel of what the problem is, where it comes from and what the individual patient needs from physiotherapy…a pro athlete will have very different goals from a new mum!!
Having carried out a full assessment and getting to know the patient I tailor my treatment program to the needs of the individual. Treatment varies from person to person and may include many different styles of technique, all tried and tested over my years of experience and backed up by the latest scientific research. I may even recommend the help from another type of therapist too…eg in chronic cases, perhaps some psychological input, or some acupuncture for general health and well being.
Having used Pilates as part of my patients´ treatment programs for many years now, and indeed for my own personal rehabilitation following a very severe back injury (yes, I do know what it is like to have severe pain, be unable to work or even walk properly!) I truly believe that retraining core muscles and posture is an essential part of achieving a successful outcome in the long term. Therefore, don’t be surprised if you have homework!!
What really floats my boat is treating the really tricky cases, even if Physio or other therapies have failed in the past, the more difficult and chronic the case, more I enjoy rising to the challenge!
